Day 1: Kigali City Tour, Cultural Experiences and Departure
Your Kigali adventure begins in the morning when your Verdant Safaris guide meets you at your hotel or Kigali International Airport. You will start with a panoramic city drive through some of Kigali’s principal neighbourhoods, taking in the hills, modern buildings, leafy streets and lively commercial areas that characterise the capital. Your first major stop will be the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you will learn about the history of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and Rwanda’s subsequent journey towards remembrance, unity and reconciliation. The memorial includes exhibitions and gardens dedicated to remembering those who lost their lives. After this meaningful visit, you will continue towards one of Kigali’s local markets, where you can browse colourful fabrics, handicrafts, baskets, clothing and other locally made products. Verdant Safaris highlights places such as Kimironko Market, Kaplaki and Nyamirambo Women’s Centre for Made in Rwanda products. You will then enjoy lunch at a selected Kigali restaurant before continuing with an afternoon cultural experience. Depending on your interests, the afternoon can include a visit to the Rwanda Art Museum, Kandt House Museum, Kigali Cultural Village or a local coffee experience. Your guide will then transfer you to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight, or to your chosen hotel if you are continuing with another Rwanda safari or tour.
