3 Days Lake Tanganyika and Rusizi National Park Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Bujumbura and Lake Tanganyika Experience

Your safari begins with arrival at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, where your Verdant Safaris guide will welcome you and transfer you to your accommodation in Bujumbura. After check-in and some time to refresh, you will begin your introduction to the city, taking in its atmosphere, important landmarks and the beautiful setting between the surrounding hills and Lake Tanganyika. You will then proceed towards the lakeshore, where you can enjoy the impressive views across one of Africa’s Great Lakes and observe local activities around the water. Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy a relaxed lakeside experience, take photographs and learn about the importance of fishing and the lake to communities in the region. Day 2: Rusizi National Park Wildlife and Boat Safari

After breakfast, you will drive to Rusizi National Park for a full day of wildlife and nature exploration. Located just outside Bujumbura, the park protects wetlands, river channels, papyrus areas and floodplains around the lower Rusizi River and its meeting point with Lake Tanganyika. Your experience will include a guided exploration of the park, with opportunities to look for hippos, Nile crocodiles, antelope and a variety of wetland birds. A boat excursion along the Rusizi waterways can provide a different perspective of the ecosystem and allow you to appreciate the relationship between the river, wetlands and lake. You will have time for photography and birdwatching while your guide explains the wildlife and vegetation you encounter along the way. After the excursion, you will return towards Bujumbura, enjoying the changing scenery before having dinner and relaxing at your accommodation.

Day 3: Lake Tanganyika Morning, Bujumbura Sightseeing and Departure

After breakfast, you will have your final morning to enjoy the Lake Tanganyika area before your departure. Depending on your flight schedule, you can take a relaxed walk around the lakeshore, enjoy the scenery and photograph the surrounding landscape while your guide shares more information about the lake and Bujumbura. You may also have an opportunity to visit a local market or selected city attraction for a final introduction to everyday life in Burundi. If your departure time permits, you can enjoy lunch in Bujumbura before beginning your airport transfer. Your guide will ensure that you have sufficient time to collect your belongings and proceed to Melchior Ndadaye International Airport for your onward flight. This final day is deliberately kept flexible so that the schedule can accommodate your flight time without rushing your departure.
