Explore two of Burundi’s remarkable natural areas on this 4 Days Rusizi National Park and Kibira Forest Safari with Verdant Safaris. This itinerary combines the wetlands and wildlife of Rusizi National Park with the montane rainforest of Kibira National Park, creating a varied nature experience within four days. Rusizi National Park lies close to Bujumbura and is known for its wetlands, hippos, mammals and abundant birdlife, while Kibira protects a vast rainforest along the Congo-Nile range, supporting numerous mammals, primates and bird species. You will also experience the scenery of Burundi’s highlands, including the tea plantations around Teza and Rwegura, before returning to Bujumbura for your departure. The programme is suitable for you if you want to combine wildlife viewing, birdwatching, forest walks and spectacular landscapes in one compact safari.

Day 1: Arrival in Bujumbura and Rusizi National Park Wildlife Experience

Your safari begins with arrival in Bujumbura, where your Verdant Safaris guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. You will explore the park’s wetlands and riverine environment while looking out for hippos, antelopes, crocodiles and numerous species of colourful waterbirds. The park is particularly known for its hippos and rich birdlife around the Rusizi delta, making it an excellent introduction to Burundi’s natural heritage.
