10 Days Kenya Big Five Safari Adventure

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

You arrive in Nairobi, Kenya’s vibrant capital city, where you are met by your Verdant Safaris representative and transferred to your hotel. After checking in, you have time to relax and recover from your journey before beginning the main safari adventure. Your safari guide gives you a detailed briefing about the itinerary, including the destinations you will visit, game-drive arrangements and the experiences planned for the coming days. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a short city orientation or simply relax at your accommodation. You can also use the free time to prepare your camera equipment and safari clothing for the adventure ahead. In the evening, you enjoy your first dinner in Kenya and spend the night in Nairobi.

Day 2: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, you depart Nairobi and travel south towards Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s most spectacular wildlife destinations. The journey takes you through changing landscapes, rural settlements and agricultural areas before reaching the Amboseli ecosystem. After lunch, you enter the national park for your first game drive, exploring open plains, wetlands and acacia-covered areas. You begin searching for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, antelopes and other wildlife, while your guide explains the behaviour and habitats of the animals you encounter. On clear days, the impressive Mount Kilimanjaro provides a dramatic backdrop to the landscape and creates excellent photographic opportunities. You continue your afternoon game drive before proceeding to your lodge or camp for dinner and your first night in the Amboseli wilderness.

Day 3: Full-Day Amboseli Big Five Wildlife Safari

You begin the day with an early morning game drive through Amboseli National Park, when wildlife is often active and the temperatures are cooler. The morning provides excellent opportunities to search for large elephant herds, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras and numerous plains species. Your guide takes you towards different habitats, including the wetlands and open grasslands where wildlife frequently gathers. You return to your accommodation for breakfast and some relaxation before continuing your wildlife exploration later in the morning. After lunch, you head out for an extended afternoon game drive, looking for predators and other wildlife while enjoying the spectacular scenery around you. As the sun begins to set, you return to your accommodation for dinner and a peaceful evening surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

Day 4: Amboseli to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, you leave Amboseli and travel towards Lake Nakuru National Park in the Great Rift Valley. The journey takes you through changing Kenyan landscapes, with opportunities to see rural communities, farmland and scenic sections of the Rift Valley along the way. After lunch, you enter Lake Nakuru National Park for an afternoon game drive around the lake and its surrounding habitats. The park is particularly known for its rhino population, giving you an opportunity to search for both black and white rhinoceros in suitable areas. You may also encounter buffaloes, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras and various antelope species during your exploration. The lake and surrounding vegetation also provide excellent birdwatching opportunities, with many waterbirds inhabiting the area. After the game drive, you proceed to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay near the park.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara National Reserve

Day 6: Full-Day Maasai Mara Big Five Safari

Today is dedicated to a full-day wildlife safari in the Maasai Mara, giving you extensive time to explore one of Kenya’s most celebrated wildlife areas. You set out early in the morning when the temperatures are cooler and many animals are active across the plains. Your guide searches for lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards and other wildlife while explaining the behaviour and ecological relationships of the species you encounter. You may also see giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas, cheetahs and numerous antelope species during the day’s exploration. You enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated location before continuing your afternoon game drive through another section of the reserve. As the day comes to an end, you return to your accommodation, enjoy dinner and relax after an exciting day of wildlife viewing.

Day 7: Maasai Mara Big Five and Cultural Experience

Day 8: Maasai Mara to Nairobi

You then continue through the Kenyan countryside, passing rural settlements, agricultural areas and sections of the Great Rift Valley. Lunch is taken en route before continuing towards Nairobi. Upon arrival in the capital, you check into your hotel and have time to relax after the journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may take an optional city excursion or simply enjoy the facilities at your accommodation. In the evening, you enjoy dinner and prepare for the final full day of your Kenyan safari adventure.

Day 9: Nairobi Wildlife and Cultural Experience

After breakfast, you enjoy a relaxed final full day in Nairobi, combining wildlife and cultural experiences before your departure. Depending on your interests and schedule, you may visit Nairobi National Park, where wildlife can be viewed against the backdrop of the city’s skyline. Alternatively, you may visit a cultural attraction such as the Karen Blixen Museum or explore a local craft centre. Nairobi offers several officially promoted cultural and wildlife experiences, including the Karen Blixen Museum and other nature-focused activities. You enjoy lunch before continuing with your selected afternoon activity. Later, you return to your hotel to rest, organise your luggage and prepare for your departure the following day. Your final evening in Kenya is spent enjoying dinner and reflecting on the memorable wildlife encounters experienced throughout the safari.

Day 10: Departure

After breakfast, you check out of your Nairobi hotel and prepare for your departure from Kenya. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time to relax at the hotel or purchase a few final souvenirs before leaving the city. Your Verdant Safaris representative transfers you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or another agreed departure point in Nairobi. You are advised to arrive at the airport in good time for check-in, immigration and security procedures. As you leave Kenya, you take with you memories of spectacular elephant herds in Amboseli, rhino encounters at Lake Nakuru, and exciting Big Five wildlife experiences in the Maasai Mara. Your 10 Days Kenya Big Five Safari Adventure officially ends at the airport.
